Carlo Maria Carbonaro graduated in Physics at the University of Cagliari (110/110 cum laude) in 1995, discussing a thesis entitled: Monoelectroni charging effects in semiconductors mesoscopic devices using Classic Molecular Dynamics. He received his Ph.D. degree in physics from the University of Cagliari, Monserrato, Italy, in 2000. His thesis concerned Deep defects in SiO2: theory and experiments. Granted a research fellowship during 2000–2002 for research about the Optical characterization in the vacuum ultraviolet range of silica-based compounds and also for industrial applications, he has been a Full-Time Researcher with the Department of Physics of the University of Cagliari since 2002. He achieved the qualification in experimental Physics as an associate professor in 2013 and as a full professor in 2017. He has been an associate professor with the Department of Physics of the University of Cagliari since 2016. His research is focused on the optical characterization of dielectrics and semiconductors with both bulk and porous structures and organic and inorganic fluorescent materials for photonic applications. He is involved in research projects supported by the European Community and the Italian Ministry of Education, University, and Research.
