Full Professor of Physiology, with extensive teaching and research experience. Since the 1990s, my research has focused on the development of in vitro models to evaluate the safety of different compounds such as surfactants or antioxidants obtained from natural products. My research experience on toxicological evaluation and the development of in vitro models has been recognized internationally with my appointment as member of the SCCS (Scientific Committee of Consumer Safety) of the European Commission from 2009 to 2013. During this period, I participated in the publication of a number of reports of the Committee, which have the relevance of constituting the guidelines for the European Commission to determine at the legislative level the maximum concentrations of cosmetic ingredients, as well as the list of products allowed or not for such applications in Europe. I was also member of the Valeur Toxicologiques Committee of Reference II of the Agence Nationale de Securité Sanitaire alimentation Environment travail (France) in the period 2011 to 2013. Other relevant activities at the international level include my participation in 2009 in the NICEATM-ICCVAM Independent Scientific Peer Review Panel on Alternative Ocular Safety Testing methods and strategies, in BETHESDA (USA). I am currently a member of the Expert groups: Skin Sensitization Expert Group and Eye and Skin irritation Expert Group of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
