Dr. Bernhard Loll is a permanent research scientist at Freie Universität Berlin (since 2013) and co-founder of moloX GmbH, Berlin (2012–2025). He studied Chemistry at the Albert-Ludwig Universtät in Freiburg and subsequently received his PhD from Freie Universität Berlin in 2005 for a thesis on the crystal structure of Photosystem II (summa cum laude, supervisor Prof. W. Saenger). After two postdoctoral periods at the Freie Universität Berlin and at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg, working on protein/RNA complexes and toxin-antitoxin systems, among other topics. His research focuses on structure-based protein biochemistry, particularly X-ray crystallography and cryo electron microscopy with a strong focus on biotechnological relevant enzymes. A main interest a structure-function relations in terpene synthases.
