Alexander Carballo received his Bachelor's in Computer Engineering from Costa Rica Institute of Technology in 1996. He worked as a lecturer for the undergraduate program of the Department of Computer Science at Costa Rica Institute of Technology from 1996 to 2006. In 2006, he joined the Intelligent Robot Laboratory at the University of Tsukuba as a research student, where he obtained a Doctor of Engineering degree in Computer Science in 2011. He worked at the Research and Development department of Hokuyo Automatic Co. Ltd. from 2011 until 2017. In 2017, he joined Nagoya University as a Designated Associate Professor affiliated with the Institutes of Innovation for Future Society. Lastly, in 2022 he was appointed permanent Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering at Gifu University, Japan. He is a professional member of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS), IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS), Robotics Society of Japan (RSJ), Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA), the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan (JSAE), and the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (JSPRS). His main research interests include LiDAR sensors, robotic perception, autonomous driving, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, and driving behavior.
