Amir H. Gandjbakhche is the Head of the Section on Translational Biophotonics and Associate Scientific Director for the Division of Translational Imaging and Genomics Integrity at the Eunice Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health. He has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. from the University of Paris in Biomedical Engineering. His research has been focused on devising quantitative methodologies and associated instrumentations to bring technologies from the bench to the bedside. His focus has been to design relatively inexpensive, wearable, and portable monitoring systems. The translational nature of these projects requires fostering collaborations in a trans-disciplinary and trans-institutional manner within the Intramural Research Program, as well as with national and international colleagues. This proficiency has been recognized by the NICHD Collaboration Award. In addition, he has been recognized by his peers as a Fellow of the two largest professional societies in optics and photonics (SPIE and OSA). He was awarded the NICHD Mentor Award for his mentorship and training expertise, and all his students and postdocs have advanced to brilliant careers. In 2018, his work on wearable and low-cost devices was recognized with the NICHD Innovation Award. He has more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and a dozen book chapters.
