Biography

Hannes is a geoecologist (1999) from the University of Potsdam (Germany) with a PhD in soil science from the University of Hannover (2004). He is specialised in spatial research projects for natural resource management, from global (SRTM Void filling, Crop Growth Modelling, Landform Classification) to continental (Digital Soil Mapping, Wind erosion modelling, Air Quality Monitoring) to local scales (Precision Agriculture, Water Erosion Modelling). Hannes has worked in national and international, multi-disciplinary research institutes, such as the World Data Center for Soils at ISRIC World Soil Information (ISRIC), the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Leibniz Centre for Agriculture Landscape Research (ZALF), and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK). One of Hannes' focal points is transforming valuable tacit knowledge into statistical, uncertainty-related information that can be used to run multi-scale decision-making models for sound policy decisions. Currently, he bridges technical feasibility and functional requirements, serving a wide community of geospatial and policy experts in public administration.
