Accurately detecting apple fruit can crucially assist in estimating the fruit yield in apple orchards in complex scenarios. In such environments, the factors of density, leaf occlusion, and fruit overlap can affect the detection and counting accuracy. This paper proposes an improved YOLOv7-Tiny-PDE network model based on the YOLOv7-Tiny model to detect and count apples from data collected by drones, considering various occlusion and lighting conditions. First, within the backbone network, we replaced the simplified efficient layer aggregation network (ELAN) with partial convolution (PConv), reducing the network parameters and computational redundancy while maintaining the detection accuracy. Second, in the neck network, we used a dynamic detection head to replace the original detection head, effectively suppressing the background interference and capturing the background information more comprehensively, thus enhancing the detection accuracy for occluded targets and improving the fruit feature extraction. To further optimize the model, we replaced the boundary box loss function from CIOU to EIOU. For fruit counting across video frames in complex occlusion scenes, we integrated the improved model with the DeepSort tracking algorithm based on Kalman filtering and motion trajectory prediction with a cascading matching algorithm. According to experimental results, compared with the baseline YOLOv7-Tiny, the improved model reduced the total parameters by 22.2% and computation complexity by 18.3%. Additionally, in data testing, the p-value improved by 0.5%; the R-value rose by 2.7%; the mAP and F1 scores rose by 4% and 1.7%, respectively; and the MOTA value improved by 2%. The improved model is more lightweight and can preserve a high detection accuracy well, and hence, it can be applied to detection and counting tasks in complex orchards and provides a new solution for fruit yield estimation using lightweight devices.
The new wave of modern rail transit and the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) have complicated the business patterns of the rolling stock manufacturing industry (RSMI) and the export of rolling stock products, especially in the case of countries participating in the BRI. Based on the analysis of trade patterns—which focuses on the evolution of trade links, community structures, and intraregional export competitiveness—this study aims to explore the changes in the RSMI within the BRI region from 2003 to 2017. Sequential clustering was applied to the creation of a three-phase timeline. The network models of the cumulative trade of the rolling stock products and trades of two typical categories of products were constructed in each phase for the evolution analysis. Social network analysis methods, such as the analysis of network indices and community detection, were also applied. The results show that from 2003 to 2017, the connectivity of the rolling stock trade in this region significantly increased. China was the largest exporter, with increasing trade influence and technological strength. Ukraine and Russia were less competitive and highly mutually dependent. Czechia and Austria’s competitiveness remained prominent, but compared with China they lacked expansive vitality. South Korea was also an active and competitive country with strong technological prowess. These countries accounted for the majority of the exports, and were always at the center of their own separate communities, over which they maintained a sphere of influence. The grouping of countries far from any such spheres of influence changed frequently.
The Indian Ocean Region (IOR) has become one of the main economic forces globally, and countries within the IOR have attempted to promote their intra-regional trade. This study investigates the spatiotemporal evolution of the community structures of the intra-regional trade and the impact of determinant factors on the formation of trade community structures of the IOR from 1996 to 2017 using the methods of social network analysis. Trade communities are groups of countries with measurably denser intra-trade ties but with extra-trade ties that are measurably sparser among different communities. The results show that the extent of trade integration and the trade community structures of the IOR changed from strengthening between 1996 and 2014 to weakening between 2015 and 2017. The largest explanatory power of the formation of the IOR trade community structures was the IOR countries’ economic size, indicating that market remained the strongest driver. The second-largest explanatory power was geographical proximity, suggesting that countries within the IOR engaged in intra-regional trade still tended to select geographically proximate trading partners. The third- and the fourth-largest were common civilization and regional organizational memberships, respectively. This indicates that sharing a common civilization and constructing intra-regional institutional arrangements (especially open trade policies) helped the countries within the IOR strengthen their trade communities.
Water scarcity severely restricts the sustainable development of water-stressed regions like Hebei Province. A scientific assessment of water resource carrying capacity (WRCC) is essential. However, single-weighting methods often lead to biased results. To address this limitation, we propose a combined weighting model that integrates the Entropy Weight Method (EWM), Projection Pursuit (PP), and CRITIC. To support this model, we developed a multi-dimensional, long-term WRCC evaluation dataset covering 11 prefecture-level cities in Hebei Province over 24 years (2000–2023). This approach simultaneously considers data dispersion, inter-indicator conflict, and structural features. It ensures that a more balanced weighting scheme is obtained. The traditional TOPSIS model was further improved through Grey Relational Analysis (GRA), which enhanced the discriminatory power and stability of WRCC assessment. The findings were as follows: (1) From 2000 to 2023, the WRCC in Hebei Province showed a fluctuating upward trend and a “high-north, low-south” spatial gradient. (2) Obstacle analysis revealed a vicious cycle of “resource scarcity–structural conflict–ecological deficit”. This cycle is caused by excessive exploitation of groundwater and low efficiency of industrial water use. The combined weighting–GRA–TOPSIS model offers a reliable WRCC diagnostic tool. The results indicate the core barriers to water use in Hebei and provide targeted policy ideas for sustainable development.
