Tayyaba Hasan, PhD, is a Professor of Dermatology at the Harvard Medical School and a Professor of Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard-MIT. She is a leader in photochemical and photobiological approaches to the treatment and diagnosis of cancer and infection using targeted strategies, especially nanotechnology. Her overall strategy is to develop molecular mechanisms and optical imaging-based combination treatment regimens where one treatment arm involves the light activation of certain near-infrared-absorbing chemicals. This program identifies various cellular and molecular targets for specific diseases and designs constructs for optimal photochemical treatment effects. As the winner of five lifetime achievement awards for her scientific work as well as her leadership and mentoring from various international organizations, Prof. Hasan is a well-known leader in her field.
