Michael O Hottiger studied Veterinary Medicine and Molecular Biology at the University of Zurich. He then moved to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA) before accepting a position as principal investigator at the University of Zurich in 1998. He was promoted in 2002 to full professor of Molecular Biology at the Institute of Veterinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the University of Zurich and is acting director of the Department of Molecular Mechanisms of Disease. In 2001, he received the Dr. Ernst Th. Jucker Award and in 2004 the PHOENIX Pharmazie-Wissenschaftspreis. He is also a co-founder of DUALSYSTEMS Biotech AG. The research in Michael O. Hottiger’s group is focused on the molecular mechanisms of NF-kappaB-dependent gene expression during inflammation.
