Yuying Yan is a Professor and Chair in Thermofluids Engineering at the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK, with more than 30 years of experience in fluid flow and heat transfer. He obtained his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the City University of London in 1996. He was a Research Fellow in two-phase flow at the Department of Chemical & Process Engineering, University of Surrey (UK) from 1996–1998. He was appointed to an academic position in the UK (Senior Lecturer from 1998; Readership from 2003) in Mechanical Engineering at Nottingham Trent University. He joined the University of Nottingham in 2004 (as a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in 2004, then was promoted to Reader in 2009, and to Full Professor (Chair) position in 2011). He carries out wide-ranging research on fluid flow and heat transfer encountered in engineering and the built environment. His current major research includes multi-scale modelling (based on CFD, LBM, and MD) of boiling in microchannels; micro- and nano-fluid flow and heat transfer; biomimetics of functional surfaces with fluids (surface wettability, hydrophobicity, drag/adhesion reduction); development of efficient cooling technology and various thermal management solutions for modern automotive, turbo machine, and power electronics.
