This paper sets out to analyse organisations in the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE), working in the field of energy provision, and their contribution to the so-called energy transition from the perspective of social innovation. By showing the practical application of the concept of social innovation and its convergence and synergies with the SSE, we review the extent to which Basque Renewable Energy SSE alternatives are experiences that incorporate socially innovative elements. In addition, we study three cases through these approaches in order to observe the real and potential benefits that experiences based on social innovation can bring to energy transition. The main contribution of our research is to analyse the means by which certain initiatives are implemented through projects framed using the most prominent theoretical models focused on energy transition, social innovation and a social and solidarity-based economy, all aimed at achieving a low-carbon society. .

The main objective of this study is to present a teaching–learning experience carried out before the appearance of the COVID-19 pandemic and to analyze its usefulness in times of social and academic restrictions, as well as its fit into an online teaching format. In recent years, much research has been done on the development and application of new teaching methodologies, but the current health emergency situation means that it is necessary to assess how these methodologies are useful in a context of social distancing. Managing teaching–learning processes following the closure of educational centers due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19 presents a significant challenge, not just in Business Management, but across all subjects. In the context of a pandemic, active methodologies take on greater importance as a way of adapting to new, socially distanced educational needs. This article presents a study carried out among students of Business Management at the University of the Basque Country (Spain). The study focuses on the context of the flipped classroom methodology, with students being asked to rate the effectiveness of this methodology, before and after the pandemic. Following the appearance of the pandemic, opinions have been strengthened in favor of the inverted classroom methodology, which is shown to be a powerful methodological alternative compatible with online teaching. Educational authorities must strengthen the technological tools as well as the teacher skills needed to develop capacities related to the rapid response to current and future teaching challenges.

This work gathers an experience carried out during the academic years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 in the Degree in Business Administration and Management in the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (Gipuzkoa section). The main objective of the essay is to reinforce the involvement of students in the learning process and, secondly, to collect their perception of active methodologies for teaching-learning and thus be able to improve their application. To this end, we have used resources that employ the students' mobile phones, specifically the Socrative tool, to respond to online questionnaires, with the aim of reinforcing the motivation and participation of the students, and in the general context of the inverted classroom methodology.

This study aims to analyse the relationship between tourist growth in urban destinations and certain transformations apparent in main recipient cities. Particular attention is paid to the impact of tourism on housing in popular tourist destinations, and on the people who live there. We focus on the case of San Sebastian, in Spain, which is a major tourist destination and, together with Dubrovnik, Venice, Barcelona and Amsterdam, is one of the European cities which has seen a growing concern over mass tourism. Firstly, this study seeks to analyse different research approaches conducted over recent years on the complex relationship between tourism and the rental-housing sector. Secondly, the study examines whether the increase in the intensity of use of the Airbnb platform is related to the price asked when renting a property long-term. The analysis conducted shows that a one standard deviation increase in Airbnb intensity is associated with an increase of 7.3% in rental prices. Our suggestions for urban planners and managers in charge of urban tourist destinations are for greater regulation of tourist accommodation in line with long-term house rentals.

Identifying factors that promote pro-environmental behavior has become a key task in forecasting future environmental needs and trends in society and in designing products, educational programs and policies which meet society's environmental demands. The aim of this study is to contrast how gender affects environmental behavior through its influence on psychological factors that determine pro-environmental behavior and in a cultural context with laws that promote gender equality. A sample of 1089 university students is analyzed to estimate the effect of psychological factors (motivations, attitudes, perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE) and environmental knowledge) on behavior towards the environment from a gender perspective. To model such behavior and direct better environmental policies and strategies an ordered logit model is developed for each gender. Significant differences are found, with specific factors affecting each gender's pro-environmental behavior. Elasticity values are generally higher for men, so men are likely to be more sensitive to programs that attempt to change their behavior. This work adds new knowledge to the field of pro-environmental behavior from a gender perspective. It not only identifies how gender influences behavior towards the environment but also determines the different factors that affect the pro-environmental behavior of each gender and the extent of that effect.

University students are a key group for research since they will be the consumers and the intellectual vanguard of the future and, therefore, a reference group for other consumers. Accordingly, data obtained from university students in Spain (n = 640) and the US (n = 597) were analysed to identify the main internal factors which lead them to participate in recycling activities. Given that morality‐based theories, and more specifically the Value–Belief–Norm (VBN) Theory, might be very useful in explaining pro‐environmental behaviour which requires personal sacrifices and whose benefits are mainly for the environment itself, that is the theoretical approach that we take for the selection and analysis of factors. Our findings support our thesis that environmental knowledge is a factor that should be (but is not currently) considered in the framework of VBN theory for predicting recycling behaviour. Although university students from Spain and the US have very different recycling rates, the internal factors that explain their recycling behaviour are very similar (motivations, perceived consumer effectiveness (PCE), environmental knowledge and gender). The elasticity of recycling behaviour to changes in internal factors is estimated with a view to making predictions, and altruistic motivations and PCE are found to be the factors that have the greatest effect in terms of improving recycling behaviour, followed by environmental knowledge. These predictions could help university policy makers take better decisions about the factors on which they need to act to increase recycling activities. Some guidelines for consideration in future intervention strategies to encourage this group to recycle are also provided.

AbstractNowadays the reduction or elimination of waste has become a major environmental concern among industrialized countries and a priority for companies. In this work it is carried out a review of the postulates of the classical economic model, existing until a few dates, in connection with the variable environment and waste generated by firms. It is also examined the literature about the potential of the waste management and possible alternatives for obtaining of advantages or benefits derived from an efficient treatment of waste. This paper is completed with an empirical analysis of the waste management in companies of the Basque Autonomous Community. The motivations that drive firms to implement a waste management system and the advantages or benefits which derive from this fact are analyzed among other factors
