Biography

Erin D Giles is Assistant Professor of Movement Science at the U-M School of Kinesiology. She received her Ph.D. in Medical Science at McMaster University and the Juravinski Cancer Center. She then worked at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism. She has experience using integrative, translational approaches to study the impact of obesity on metabolic health in pre-clinical models, with an emphasis on postmenopausal breast cancer. Her research is currently focused on determining how inflammation in the breast adipose and tumor microenvironment link menopausal weight gain to subsequent breast cancer risk, and using diet, exercise, and pharmacological interventions to decrease these obesity-associated comorbidities after menopause.
