Franz Faupel holds the Chair for Multicomponent Materials at Kiel University, is Chairman of the North German Initiative Nanotechnology, and is a founding member of the newly established International Alliance of Societies for a Sustainable Future. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the IBM Research Center Yorktown Heights and obtained his Habilitation in 1992 at the University of Göttingen. He has published more than 400 research papers on metallic glasses, metal–polymer interfaces, functional nanocomposites, magnetoelectric sensors, photocatalysis, plasma deposition, and memristive devices for neuromorphic computing.
