Dr. Sami El Khatib is an associate professor and an assistant dean of the School of Arts & Sciences at the Lebanese International University (LIU). He holds a PhD in Cell Biology and Oncology (2005), a master's degree in Bioengineering & Biomaterials (2002), a university diploma in Animal Experimentation (2003) from Henri Poincare University in France, and a BS in Medical Laboratory from Lebanese University (2000). He has been listed on the Alper-DÖĞER Scientific Index since 2022 and has recently joined the research fellowship program at the Gulf University for Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Middle East Molecular Biology Society and the MEMBS International Advisory Committee. He published his first work conducted in vivo aiming at the use of Hexvix (Hexyl-aminolevulinate-hALA) as a pro-drug, a precursor of the Protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) mediating the Photodynamic treatment of bladder cancer in rats. He has been involved also in the development and the preclinical application of an optoelectronic imaging system (Cell ViZio), dedicated to in vivo Optical Biopsy, and based on the use of a Real-Time Fluorescence Confocal Microscopy devoted to in situ imaging of tissues and organs. He also developed a reproducible model for solitary bladder cancer in rats adopted as the most optimized model used for many research and pharmacokinetics applications.
