Biography

Scott V. Edwards: Scott Edwards is Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology in the Museum of Comparative Zoology (MCZ) and Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. He is also curator of ornithology in the MCZ. He received his PhD in Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1992. He is an evolutionary biologist with broad interests in the evolution and diversification of vertebrates and their genomes, with an emphasis on birds. His early work focused on multilocus phylogeography in Australia and studies on the structure and evolution of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in birds. Currently he is contributing to statistical models linking genome variation to phenotypic traits via phylogenies and the population genetics of pangenomes in birds. He is a member of the Society for Systematic Biologists, Society for the Study of Evolution, the Society for Molecular Biology and Evolution and the American Society of Naturalists, among others.
