Dr. Athanasia Mouzaki is a Professor of Laboratory Hematology and Transfusion Medicine in the Division of Hematology, Dpt. of Internal Medicine, Medical School, University of Patras, Greece and Director of the Immunohematology Laboratory. In 1979, she received General Certificates of Education (GCEs) in chemistry, physics, mathematics and English (Cambridge Board, UK). She earned her Bachelor's degree (B.Sc./Honors) in Biological Sciences (Major: Physiology, Specialization: Cellular Toxicology) (University of Plymouth, UK) in 1983, Master's degree (MSc.) in Biological Sciences (Immunology) (University of Salford, UK) in 1985, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (University of Salford, UK and Free University of Berlin, DE) in 1988. From 1983 to 1985, she was a part-time lecturer and demonstrator at the Laboratory of Immunology, University of Salford, Greater Manchester, UK. Then, she became a research assistant at the Institute of Immunology, Medical School, Klinikum Steglitz, Berlin, Germany (1985-1987). She served as an assistante post-doctorante at the Dpt. of Molecular Biology, University of Geneva, Geneva, Switzerland (1987-1990: ), an assistante post-doctorante (1991-1992), and maitre assistante at the Dpt. of Hematology, Medical School and University Hospital, Geneva, Switzerland (1992-1995). In 1995, she joined the University of Patras as a Lecturer. Her research areas include immunology (molecular, cellular, clinical), immunohematology, and hematology.
