Dr. Daniel R. Gonzalez (Ph.D.) is an associate professor of Biomedical sciences at the School of Health Sciences, Universidad de Talca, Chile. He obtained his BSc in Biochemistry and a Doctorate in Biological Sciences (Ph.D.) at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Santiago, Chile. Previously, Dr. Gonzalez worked as a postdoctoral Fellow in Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, and as a research associate at the Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute, Miller School of Medicine, University of Miami, Miami, Florida, USA. In 2005, Dr. Daniel Gonzalez received the Merck-Sharp and Dohme Award, First Place for Latin American Young Investigator, for The Inter-American Society of Hypertension in Cancún, México. Currently, Dr. Daniel Gonzalez’ research focuses on the interplay between oxidative and nitrosative species in cardiac disorders that include dystrophic cardiomyopathy, diabetic cardiomyopathy, and cardiac aging, studying the heart at the molecular, cellular, and intact organ levels. Dr. Daniel Gonzalez´s research has been funded by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), Chile.
