I am the Principal Investigator of a laboratory that performs research in bovine tuberculosis. Our research aims to answer basic questions related to the pathogenesis of bovine tuberculosis. In this host-pathogen interaction, we use an in vitro model infecting bovine macrophages with Mycobacterium bovis. We interrogate this system in different areas including cell death induction, macrophage gene expression, cytokine production, phagocytosis, bacterial intracellular survival, among others. In addition, we are interested in the study of the immune response in granulomas of Mycobacterium bovis naturally infected cattle. Finally, natural disease resistance of cattle and strategies for bovine tuberculosis control are also topics of my interest.
