Jeroen Lauwaert is an assistant professor. In 2015, he obtained his PhD degree at the Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT) in close collaboration with the Center for Ordered Materials, Organometallics and Catalysis (COMOC) on the design of cooperative acid-base catalysts for aldol reactions. During his doctoral research, he gained international experience in the research group of Prof. Jones at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, USA. Afterwards, he started as a postdoc within the research group at Industrial Catalysis and Adsorption Technology (INCAT).
His main research interests are related to process intensification for applications ranging from biomass valorization to fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Lignin valorization, aldol reactions, esterifications, hydrodeoxygenations and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions are just a few of the processes he has been working on. His activities comprise a broad spectrum of fields, including heterogeneous catalyst synthesis and characterization, systematic assessment of catalytic performance in terms of activity and stability, kinetic modelling, phase equilibria measurements, thermodynamic modeling and separation design.
