Biography

I am a Ph.D. Biotechnologist (Industrial Biotechnology, summa cum laude, January 2024, University of Aveiro) with multidisciplinary expertise in food biotechnology, environmental and chemical engineering, and circular bioeconomy solutions. My doctoral research focused on the sustainable valorization of Opuntia ficus-indica for high-value food, nutraceutical, and cosmetic applications. I am currently a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, working on sustainable wastewater management and the development of bio-based materials for textile effluent treatment, including biosorbents, biocoagulants, and modified biochars. My experience also includes postdoctoral and research fellow roles in food technology and sustainable packaging, contributing to smart packaging, biocomposites, and life-cycle-driven material design. My technical expertise include advanced processing technologies (high-pressure processing, ultrasound- and microwave-assisted extraction, fermentation, nano- and microencapsulation, and thermal treatments) and the development of bio-based materials from agro-forestry residues. I am proficient in advanced analytical techniques, including HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, HPSEC, SEM, and FTIR, applied across food, environmental, and biomaterials research. My work is driven by a strong commitment to sustainability, resource efficiency, and the translation of scientific knowledge into impactful industrial and environmental solutions.
