Biography

Giovanna Longhi got her degree in Physics at the University of Milan, Italy, in 1984 with the thesis work carried out in Professor Zerbi group at Politecnico of Milan. She has been Physical Chemistry researcher at University of Basilicata (1992-1994); she then was Applied Physics researcher in University of Brescia where she is full professor from 2022. Her research focused on chiroptical spectroscopies, considering both absorption (from IR to UV region) and emission (luminescence and Raman). In particular she has investigated Vibrational Circular Dichroism in the IR and near-IR regions, Circularly Polarized Luminescence and recently Magnetic Circular Dichroism. Studied systems have been organic molecules, complexes, polymers, with due account of environment interactions (solvent, surfactant, fibril-formation) and different physicochemical conditions (temperature, pH, electric potential). She has made use of DFT and TD-DFT calculations of molecular chiroptical responses, classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, analysis of anharmonicity corrections the interpretation of overtones and combinations bands.
