Piera Maccagnani received her degree in Electronics in 1988 from the University of Bologna (Italy). Since then, she has worked at the Institute of Microelectronics and Microsystems (IMM) of the Italian National Council (CNR). Her main research activity is concerned with design, simulation, fabrication, and experimental characterization of silicon-integrated devices and circuits. Since 2001, she has been deeply involved in the development of thin silicon SPAD detectors with improved performances. Since 2015, she has been working on graphene and related graphene materials (GRM) technology, developing the basic building blocks for GRM integration into the silicon platform. She is now involved in the fabrication of hybrid prototypes in electronics, photonics, and sensing applications using GRMs. She is the author or co-author of more than 60 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, proceedings of congress, and review articles.
