István Szatmári completed his Ph.D in 2004 from the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Szeged (Szeged, Hungary) under the supervision of Prof. Ferenc Fülöp. In 2004, he joined the research group of Professor Ferenc Fülöp at the same institute, where he started to work in the fields of the synthesis of novel naphthoxazine fused poliheterocycles via ortho-quinone methide intermediates, substitution of electron-rich aromatic compounds via modified Mannich reactions, and synthesis and transformations of kynurenic acid derivatives. He followed postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Prof. Erich Kleinpeter at Potsdam University (Potsdam, Germany). In 2021, he received his DSc degree, and since 2021, he has been the head of the Institute. Since 2022, he has been a full professor at the same institute. He has published 94 scientific papers in reputed journals, and he is the co-inventor of 6 patent applications.
