Dr. Katarina Smiljanić, BSc. and Magister in Biochemistry, and PhD in Biology. She conducted undergraduate and magister studies at UBFC in collaboration with the University of Kuwait in 1999, studying pain signaling pathways in diabetes mellitus animal models. In the period before doctoral studies at UB-Faculty of Biology and INSERM Institute in Paris, she lectured “Introduction to Biochemistry” at the American University of Dubai (UAE) and worked at GlaxoSmithKline Serbia as the person responsible for the vaccine portfolio as product and brand manager. She finished her PhD in 2012, revealing the role of abnormal proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cell signaling in atherosclerosis. Since 2013, she works on the UBFC FP7 RegPot FCUB-ERA EU project, being involved in the raising and accreditation of the Center of Excellence for Food Molecular Sciences at UBFC. In 2018-2019, she was a guest researcher at the Medical University of Vienna, acquiring training in respiratory allergy animal models (her stay was supported by the Horizon2020 “FoodenTwin” project). She is the author of 30 papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and 4 book chapters. MAJOR FIELDS OF RESEARCH EXPERIENCE -Food and respiratory allergen characterization involving proteomics; -Immunoproteomics characterization of Chlamydia trachomatis; -Biochemistry of plant natural products and drug development; -Intra- and extracellular signaling mechanism in cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
