Xiaoping Chen, MD, PhD, is a Professor and Principal Investigator at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Chief Scientist at CAS Lamvac (Guangzhou) Biomedical Technology Co., Ltd. Dr. Chen’s research interests include infection, tumor and immunology, especially the mechanisms of the action of Plasmodium infection on tumors. Dr. Chen has been engaged in the research of Plasmodium infection against cancer for a long time. His group has demonstrated that Plasmodium infection activates the immune system, systematically releases the tumor immunosuppressive microenvironment, inhibits tumor angiogenesis, and thus inhibits tumor growth and metastasis, and significantly prolongs the life span of tumor-bearing mice. His team is working with clinical teams to develop Plasmodium immunotherapy for advanced solid tumors and has made progress. He proposed the idea that cancer is an ecological disease and Plasmodium immunotherapy is an ecological counterattack therapy, and suggested that Plasmodium immunotherapy as a basic treatment should be combined with other therapies to treat advanced cancer. He has published more than 100 research papers.
