The uncontrolled and metastatic nature of cancer makes it worse and more unpredictable. Hence, many therapy and medication are used to control and treat cancer. However, apart from this, many medications cause various side effects. In America, nearly 8% of patients admitted to the hospital are due to side effects. Cancer is more seen in people residing in developed countries related of their lifestyle. There are various phytoconstituents molecules in which resveratrol (RSV) is the best-fitted molecule for cancer due to its significantly less adverse effect on the body. RSV inhibits the initiation and progression of cell proliferation due to the modulation of various pathways like the phosphoinositol 3 kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. RSV downgraded cell cycle-regulated proteins like cyclin E, cyclin D1, and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and induced the release of cytochrome c from the mitochondria, causing apoptosis or programmed cell death (PCD). A great benefit comes with some challenges, hence, RSV does suffer from poor solubility in water i.e. 0.05 mg/mL. It suffers from poor bioavailability due to being highly metabolized by the liver and intestine. Surprisingly, RSV metabolites also induce the metabolism of RSV. Hence, significantly less amount of RSV presented in the urine in the unchanged form. Due to some challenges like poor bioavailability, less aqueous solubility, and retention time in the body, researchers concluded to make the nanocarriers for better delivery. Adopting the technique of nano-formulations, increased topical penetration by up to 21%, improved nano-encapsulation and consequently improved bioavailability and permeability by many folds. Hence, the present review describes the complete profile of RSV and its nano-formulations for improving anti-cancer activity along with a patent survey.

Pressure-less microwave sintering of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) is an economical and viable solution for obtaining near net shape fabrication of complex shapes. Input process parameters such as sintering temperature (St), heating rate (Hr), and holding (Ht) were optimized in this work for maximal compressive yield strength, maximal density, and minimal volumetric shrinkage by response surface methodology (RSM). The individual and interactive influence/effects of the process parameters on each of the responses were studied. A statistical model was developed to predict each of the output responses. Analysis by X-ray diffractometry indicates the presence of alpha and beta phase Ti6Al4V. The optimal sintering parameters identified were: St of 1280°C, Hr of 8°C/minute, and Ht of 78 minutes. At the optimized parameters, a compressive yield strength of 541.34 ± 48.81 MPa, density of 4022.59 ± 87.38 kg/m3, and volumetric shrinkage of 16.86 ± 5% were obtained. The results of this study will help rapidly manufacture higher-strength titanium customized components using pressure-less microwave sintering method.

This work discusses the biomechanical testing of 3 elbow bones, namely the humerus, ulna, and radius. There is a need to identify the mechanical properties of the bones at the organ level. The following tests were performed: 3-point bending, fracture toughness, and axial compression. Six sets of whole-bone samples of human male cadaveric humerus, ulna, and radius (age of donor: 35 to 56 years) were tested. The results were analyzed for statistical significance by 2-stage, repeated-measure analysis of variance (ANOVA). The difference between the bending strength of the humerus, ulna, and radius was statistically significant (P = .001) when compared to one another. However, the fracture toughness and compressive strength were observed to be similar for the 3 bones. The knowledge of mechanical properties of elbow bones can aid in the design of elbow implants and upper limb protection systems, and also allow us to identify criteria for injury. Further, knowledge of the mechanical properties of the elbow bones can aid in calibrating simulations through finite elements analysis.
