Computer networks threats are becoming one the most widely debated issues worldwide. Various types of attacks are generated periodically and in an increasing scale alarming and threatening networking security issues. This is leading tone serious and fast development of feasible techniques for developing effective Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS's). In this context, some of the widely used and tested IDS's are discussed. Anomaly-based network intrusion detection techniques are getting the attention in most of the networking fields to protect network systems against malicious acts, providing a good security level especially with the integration of neural networks in the detection systems which provided advanced methods of threats investigation and detection. This paper emphasizes the importance of anomaly-based intrusion detection techniques, the important outcomes of these systems, latest developed methods and what is expected from the future experiments in this field. Moreover, the technique of learning user profiles effects in detecting intrusions will be discussed. Finally, the lights will be shed on an offline approach using Multi Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Self Organizing Maps(SOM) which is a distinguished method in intrusion detection.
Recently, the growth of the focus on internet of things (IoT) is rocketing in parallel with the evolution of the mobile fifth generation (5G) networks. To fully utilize IoT, which wirelessly connects billions of devices, a 5G network is essential. However, the provision of user’s certificates exposes the network to serious security threats. The LightCert4IoT leverages the advantages of EDGE nodes with blockchain technology and smart contracts to address the existing challenges of PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) certificates in IoT devices, which neatly achieves certificate issuance, update, and revocation more securely and efficiently. An end-user issues a self-signed certificate and lets Local Registration Authorities (LRAs)/EDGE nodes to verify and validate the binding identity-self signed certificate of the users through a blockchain such as Ethereum. This work analyzes the performance of LightCert4IoT in the IoT devices by utilizing the Cooja-Contiki simulator. The results show reduced energy consumption and memory size when compared to the conventional X509 certificate. As a conclusion, the LightCert4IoT meets the requirements of major IoT devices constraints. The paper also addresses the security threats with widespread use of IoT devices and analyses the adversary on security level from the authentication based on hardware token and blockchain and deploying firewall to protect servers against malicious attacks like DDOS. Scalability, resource limitations, privacy concerns are analyzed as IoT devices handle sensitive information, and the transparent and immutable nature of blockchain can raise data protection. Analysis of Network partitioning challenge and communication overhead.
Scientists and socialists have worked very hard to help the elderly and the disabled to adopt methods that can help them interact with society and smooth their mobility during everyday activities, rather than be dependent on others, or on using the traditional tools, mainly the wheelchair. However, this technology has basic drawbacks since the disabled still are not able to reach the wheelchair if it is placed far from them. The aim of this project is to introduce an automated ambulation tool, entitled "Mobile Controlled Wheelchair" that helps the users to locate their wheelchairs' position and move it via specific android application to the desired destination. This application also provides the user with the ability to control the wheelchair even when sitting on it, moreover, the user can give orders to adjust the path. The encouraging results set a path for implementing this concept in more aid-systems.
In order for a message to be feasible for transmission, it has to pass through an essential process which is “modulation”. Through years, Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), Delta Modulation (DM) and Differential Pulse Code Modulation (DPCM), in digital communication systems, have proven their unlimited advantages over analog communication systems, in terms of error minimization and distances of transmission enhancements. However, Pulse Code Modulation system still has some weaknesses limiting its advantages; these limitations cause quantization error, slope overload distortion and granular noise which are results of negative communication process. Since Delta Modulation is a simplified version of Pulse Coded Modulation, it has to have the same negative points related to noise and quantization. Consequently, communication engineers have developed additional digital communication systems, one of which is the Differential Pulse Coded Modulation (DPCM) in order to solve the aforementioned problems. This paper discusses the implementation of the aforementioned systems using Simulink (The Math Works, Inc., USA) on a multithreaded processor computer. The systems are to be tested on both image and audio inputs, to prove the importance of DPCM over PCM system in eliminating such effects and ensuring a successful transfer of data.
Through years, Digital Communication systems, Pulse Coded Modulation (PCM), Linear Delta Modulation (LDM), Differential Pulse Coded Modulation (DPCM), and Adaptive Delta Modulation (ADM), have proven their unlimited advantages over analog communication systems, in term of error minimization, and distances of transmission enhancement. However two of these systems, the Pulse Coded Modulation and Linear Delta Modulation, still have some weaknesses limiting their advantages, these limitations negatively affect the communication process causing quantization error, slope overload distortion and granular noise. On the other hand, communication engineers have developed two additional digital communication systems which are the Adaptive Delta Modulation (ADM) and the Differential Pulse Coded Modulation (DPCM) in order to solve the aforementioned problems. This paper discusses the implementation and simulation of the aforementioned digital communication systems using Simulink (The Math Works, Inc., Natick, MA, USA) showing the effect of different types of noise when applied to the channel, thus, proving the importance of DPCM and ADM systems in eliminating such effects and ensuring a successful transfer of data.
As many other species, honeybees are becoming extinct in the world; this phenomenon is called the Colony Collapse Disorder. Many reasons have been proven to be behind this environmental disaster like climate changes, pesticides, fungal pathogens and others, in addition to radiations generated by mobile phones, especially, since in recent years wild life has been exposed to microwaves and radio frequency's radiation signals from various sources, including wireless phones. Bees have a specific organ for sensing magnetic forces, enabling them to navigate using their own compass. The claim of the research is that radiations generated by mobile phones are disturbing the life cycle of honeybees and affecting their reproduction system and honey producing. The research involves testing the behavior of honeybees away from mobile phones, with a mobile phone in its standby mode and active communication mode. The results of the experiments verified that mobile phone affect the honeybees' life system.
