The ergonomics audit conducted at the Embassy in the Philippines was done in order to identify ergonomic hazards in the office and propose practical solutions to these problems. The result of the audit is used as input to educate employees about ergonomics principles and how these can be used to prevent musculoskeletal disorders. A total of 27 people mostly female (89%) responded to the symptom survey. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of the respondents complained of discomfort. The most complained body parts are the low back, hand/wrist, shoulder and neck. The values obtained from the audit showed that illuminances in some areas exceed recommended values. In order to address the problems identified, recommendations were given for implementation by employees and management. Ergonomics training was conducted for the purpose of educating employees how to prevent common musculoskeletal disorders experienced in the workplace.

This study evaluated the waste bin set of DLSU with respect to the waste separation performance of the users, through naturalistic observation and needs analysis. These show that there was a 62.29% error in waste separation and was mainly caused by difficulties in using the waste bin, lack of knowledge in waste sorting, inconvenience when sorting, and confusion brought about by mixed waste. It was aimed to improve the waste bin set by modifying its label & form to improve waste separation. HOQ1 was used to specifically identify the user needs, and the corresponding technical requirements of the attributes of the waste bin. The initial design was generated through the use of HOQ2, Concept Selection, and Detailed Design Process. Succeeding designs were generated through iterations derived from empirical data and user-on-site interviews from the naturalistic observation in prototype testing. Appropriate adjustments were applied until the target percent error in waste sorting was achieved.

There was a shift in sustainability consumption in the last decade that stimulated new strategies for ecological friendly industries and new product innovations. Environmental labeling is a marketing technique used to inform consumers that a company has employed a process to protect the environment. However, uncertainty remains concerning how eco-labels influence consumers. Buying green products can elicit emotion in consumers. When consumers buy eco-products, they feel that they are helping save the environment. Products provide certain emotional benefits and therefore affect mood and behavior. This study aims to examine how consumers who differ in environmental attitudes respond to eco-labels. Aside from this, it wants to determine the intensity and type of emotions elicited by these kinds of products based on a certain set of pre-purchase emotions. These emotions are still unknown. Also, it proposes the Green Emotion Model (GEM) 2.0 that correlates environmental attitudes, visual attention towards these eco-labels, emotion and the desirability of purchasing a product. This framework proposes that the environmental attitudes and awareness of consumers are crucial for them to look for this eco-label on a product. These environmental labels should be able to capture the attention of consumers and thus will provoke positive emotions and lead to the purchase of an eco-product.

The use of plastic bags has a negative environment impact, and other alternatives such as paper bags, boxes and current eco-bags proved to have a short lifetime. Due to the problems encountered by consumers in current calico eco-bags in supermarkets, there is a need to redesign the eco-bags. This study focused on an improved design for calico eco-bags which considers different customer needs in terms of its function and ergonomics aspect. The main concern of this study was to address the problem with regards to the eco-bag’s water resistance, presence of dividers, ease of cleaning, and durability. An environmentally conscious product development methodology which was integration of Environmentally Conscious Quality Function Deployment (ECQFD), Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used to select the best design which addresses the problem with current calico eco-bags. The effectiveness of the prototype was tested in terms of its performance and usability. Based on the conducted tests and survey, the prototype was able to address not only the main concerns of consumers, but the minor problem as well. The satisfaction rating of all the customer needs, except for the weight, obtained a lesser value compared to the satisfaction rating of the current eco-bags in the market. This proves that the prototype is better than the current eco-bags. A research was done regarding the selling price and it was decided that the optimal selling price is Php450.
