Recently, Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Cloud Computing have been widely adopted by researchers as well as industry. However, widespread acceptance of these novel networking paradigms has been hampered by the security threats. Advances in the processing technologies have helped attackers in increasing the attacks too, for instance, the development of Denial of Service (DoS) attacks to Distributed DoS (DDoS) attacks which are seldom identified by conventional firewalls. In this paper, we present the state of art of the DDoS attacks in SDN and cloud computing scenarios. Especially, we focus on the analysis of the SDN and cloud computing architecture. Besides, we also overview the research works and open problems in identifying and tackling the DDoS attacks.

The Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack has seriously impaired network availability for decades and still there is no effective defense mechanism against it. However, the emerging Software Defined Networking (SDN) provides a new way to reconsider the defense against DDoS attacks. In this paper, we propose two methods to detect the DDoS attack in SDN. One method adopts the degree of DDoS attack to identify the DDoS attack. The other method uses the improved K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm based on Machine Learning (ML) to discover the DDoS attack. The results of the theoretical analysis and the experimental results on datasets show that our proposed methods can better detect the DDoS attack compared with other methods.

The rapid development of Internet technology has brought great convenience to our production life, and the ensuing security problems have become increasingly prominent. These problems threaten users’ privacy and pose significant security risks to the normal conduct of many aspects of society, such as politics, economy, culture, and people’s livelihood. The growth of the information transmission rate expands the scope of attacks and provides a more attack environment for intruders. Abnormal detection is an effective security protection technology that can monitor network transmission in real-time, effectively sense external attacks, and provide response decisions for relevant managers. The development of machine learning has also led to the development of abnormal traffic detection technology. The goal has been to use powerful and fast learning algorithms to deal with changing threats and respond in real-time. Most of the current abnormal detection research is based on simulation, using public and well-known datasets. On the one hand, the dataset contains high-dimensional massive data, which traditional machine learning methods cannot be processed. On the other hand, the labeled data scale is far behind the application requirements, and the dataset’s labels are all manually labeled, so the labeling cost is exceptionally high. This paper proposes a semi-supervised Double Deep Q-Network (SSDDQN)-based optimization method for network abnormal traffic detection, mainly based on Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN), a representative of Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithm. In SSDDQN, the current network first adopts the autoencoder to reconstruct the traffic features and then uses a deep neural network as a classifier. The target network first uses the unsupervised learning algorithm K-Means clustering and then uses deep neural network prediction. The experiment uses NSL-KDD and AWID datasets for training and testing and performs a comprehensive comparison with existing machine learning models. The experimental results show that SSDDQN has certain advantages in time complexity and achieved good results in various evaluation metrics.

In recent years, with the rise of digital currency, its underlying technology, blockchain, has become increasingly well-known. This technology has several key characteristics, including decentralization, time-stamped data, consensus mechanism, traceability, programmability, security, and credibility, and block data is essentially tamper-proof. Due to these characteristics, blockchain can address the shortcomings of traditional financial institutions. As a result, this emerging technology has garnered significant attention from financial intermediaries, technology-based companies, and government agencies. This article offers an overview of the fundamentals of blockchain technology and its various applications. The introduction defines blockchain and explains its fundamental working principles, emphasizing features such as decentralization, immutability, and transparency. The article then traces the evolution of blockchain, from its inception in cryptocurrency to its development as a versatile tool with diverse potential applications. The main body of the article explores fundamentals of block chain systems, its limitations, various applications, applicability etc. Finally, the study concludes by discussing the present state of blockchain technology and its future potential, as well as the challenges that must be surmounted to unlock its full potential.
