Biography

Laura Longoni received her degree in Environmental Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in April 2002. She worked as a grant researcher at Politecnico di Milano from 2003 to 2007. In 2007, she was appointed Assistant Professor in Engineering Geology, and in 2017, she became Associate Professor. In 2022, she obtained the National Scientific Habilitation for Full Professorship in Engineering Geology. Her research activity focuses on engineering geology, with particular emphasis on soil erosion, landslide mapping, and the monitoring and modelling of mass movements. In recent years, her work has increasingly focused on advanced monitoring systems, including acoustic emission techniques for crack propagation in rock masses, optical fiber sensing for shallow landslides, and geoelectrical monitoring for seepage processes in earth embankments. She has also contributed to research on sediment transport and soil erosion, including Lagrangian and Eulerian analyses of sediment motion and sediment transport modelling, as well as to landslide hazard and risk assessment through laboratory studies for early warning systems, landslide modelling, and investigations on the impacts of climate change on landslide risk.
