Moving object detection is a vital research area that plays an essential role in intelligent transportation systems (ITSs) and various applications in computer vision. Recently, researchers have utilized convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to develop new techniques in object detection and recognition. However, with the increasing number of machine learning strategies used for object detection, there has been a growing need for large datasets with accurate ground truth used for the training, usually demanding their manual labeling. Moreover, most of these deep strategies are supervised and only applicable for specific scenes with large computational resources needed. Alternatively, other object detection techniques such as classical background subtraction need low computational resources and can be used with general scenes. In this paper, we propose a new a reliable semi-automatic method that combines a modified version of the detection-based CNN You Only Look Once V4 (YOLOv4) technique and background subtraction technique to perform an unsupervised object detection for surveillance videos. In this proposed strategy, background subtraction-based low-rank decomposition is applied firstly to extract the moving objects. Then, a clustering method is adopted to refine the background subtraction (BS) result. Finally, the refined results are used to fine-tune the modified YOLO v4 before using it in the detection and classification of objects. The main contribution of this work is a new detection framework that overcomes manual labeling and creates an automatic labeler that can replace manual labeling using motion information to supply labeled training data (background and foreground) directly from the detection video. Extensive experiments using real-world object monitoring benchmarks indicate that the suggested framework obtains a considerable increase in mAP compared to state-of-the-art results on both the CDnet 2014 and UA-DETRAC datasets.

Automatic detection and counting of vehicles in a video is a challenging task and has become a key application area of traffic monitoring and management. In this paper, an efficient real-time approach for the detection and counting of moving vehicles is presented based on YOLOv2 and features point motion analysis. The work is based on synchronous vehicle features detection and tracking to achieve accurate counting results. The proposed strategy works in two phases; the first one is vehicle detection and the second is the counting of moving vehicles. Different convolutional neural networks including pixel by pixel classification networks and regression networks are investigated to improve the detection and counting decisions. For initial object detection, we have utilized state-of-the-art faster deep learning object detection algorithm YOLOv2 before refining them using K-means clustering and KLT tracker. Then an efficient approach is introduced using temporal information of the detection and tracking feature points between the framesets to assign each vehicle label with their corresponding trajectories and truly counted it. Experimental results on twelve challenging videos have shown that the proposed scheme generally outperforms state-of-the-art strategies. Moreover, the proposed approach using YOLOv2 increases the average time performance for the twelve tested sequences by 93.4% and 98.9% from 1.24 frames per second achieved using Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (F R-CNN ) and 0.19 frames per second achieved using the background subtraction based CNN approach (BS-CNN ), respectively to 18.7 frames per second.

High-resolution remote sensing (HRRS) image scene classification has gained increasing importance in recent years, with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) showing particular promise due to their proficiency in extracting spatial features. However, traditional CNNs face significant limitations. Specifically, they struggle to capture complex semantic relationships between objects at varying scales, and they lack the ability to effectively capture long-distance dependencies between features. This limitation is especially problematic in HRRS images, where spatial relationships and semantic content are deeply intertwined. Additionally, traditional CNNs are limited in handling substantial intra-class variation and inter-class similarity, which are common in remote sensing images. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a novel Residual Channel-attention (RCA) network for scene classification. The RCA network introduces a lightweight residual structure to better capture multi-scale spatial features and incorporates a channel attention mechanism that selectively emphasizes relevant feature channels while suppressing irrelevant ones. To further refine the focus on critical image features, we integrate a squeeze-and-excitation (SE) mechanism as a self-attention component, which helps the network prioritize the most informative features and ignore background noise. We evaluated the RCA network on three public datasets: RSSCN7, PatternNet, and EuroSAT, achieving classification accuracies of 97%, 99%, and 96%, respectively. The results demonstrate that superior of the RCA network compared to state-of-the-art strategies in remote sensing image classification. Furthermore, visualization using the Grad-CAM++ algorithm highlights the effectiveness of our channel attention mechanism and underscores the RCA network’s robust feature representation capabilities.

Automatic vehicle detection and counting are considered vital in improving traffic control and management. This work presents an effective algorithm for vehicle detection and counting in complex traffic scenes by combining both convolution neural network (CNN) and the optical flow feature tracking-based methods. In this algorithm, both the detection and tracking procedures have been linked together to get robust feature points that are updated regularly every fixed number of frames. The proposed algorithm detects moving vehicles based on a background subtraction method using CNN. Then, the vehicle’s robust features are refined and clustered by motion feature points analysis using a combined technique between KLT tracker and K-means clustering. Finally, an efficient strategy is presented using the detected and tracked points information to assign each vehicle label with its corresponding one in the vehicle’s trajectories and truly counted it. The proposed method is evaluated on videos representing challenging environments, and the experimental results showed an average detection and counting precision of 96.3% and 96.8%, respectively, which outperforms other existing approaches.

A hexa-band, quad circular polarization (CP) slotted patch antenna for 5G (3.5 GHz), GPS L5 (1.17 GHz), GPS L1 (1.57 GHz), WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g/n (2.4 GHz), LTE (0.7 GHz), and radio navigation (1.3 GHz) applications, is proposed in this paper. Primarily, the patch antenna is optimized to excite the modes TM100, TM110, TM210, and TM220 at 0.7GHz, 1.17GHz, 1.57GHz, and 2.4GHz, respectively, while being fed by a single microstrip line. Then, the dimensions of the feeding microstrip line are fine-tuned such that three additional hybrid modes EH1, EH3, and EH4 are excited to resonate at 1.3GHz and a contiguous band 2.7-3.6GHz. Meanwhile, a rotated and inverted s-shaped slot is etched on the patch metal to split surface currents of each of the modes TM110, TM210, EH3, and EH4 into two orthogonal and 90 phase-shifted versions, enabling the antenna to radiate CP waves at 1.17GHz, 1.57GHz, 3.18GHz and 3.5GHz. While supporting quad-band CP operation, the proposed antenna is simply proximity-fed by a single microstrip line, which omits the need for external feeding networks and reduces the cost and complexity. The proposed antenna gain ranges from 3 to 9 dBi/dBic over operating bands.
