Francois Berthiaume received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Université Laval in 1987, his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1992 and his Post-Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from Harvard Medical School in 1994. He is now a Professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. His research area encompasses metabolic and tissue engineering. Regarding the former, they are developing a systems biology framework to characterize and treat the metabolic derangements of disease. In the area of tissue engineering, their focus is to develop methods that attract stem cells to a site of injury to promote faster wound healing and reduced scarring.
