We present a quantum mechanical study of the reaction F+D-2 at ultracold temperatures based on the potential energy surface of Stark and Werner. Th e reaction cross section at low energies is controlled by the tunneling through the activation barrier, a mechanism that is favored by the long duration of the collision at those energies. Differences are found in the behavior of the reactive cross section compared to that for F+H-2, due to the changed mass a nd zero point energy. A new feature is detected in the reaction probabilities and is attributed to a Feshbach resonance corresponding to a metastable state in the exit channel

Boosted by the simplicity of their synthesis and low toxicity, cholinium and amino acid-based ionic liquids have attracted the attention of researchers in many different fields ranging from computational chemistry to electrochemistry and medicine. Among the uncountable IL variations, these substances occupy a space on their own due to their exceptional biocompatibility that stems from being entirely made by metabolic molecular components. These substances have undergone a rather intensive research activity because of the possibility of using them as greener replacements for traditional ionic liquids. We present here a short review in the attempt to provide a compendium of the state-of-the-art scientific research about this special class of ionic liquids based on the combination of amino acid anions and cholinium cations.

The first experimental study of the X-ray absorption spectrum (XAS) of the allyl free radical, CH2CHCH2, is reported. A supersonic He seeded beam of hyperthermal allyl radicals was crossed by a high resolution synchrotron radiation (SR) in the focus of a 3D ion momentum imaging time-of-flight (TOF) spectrometer to investigate the soft X-ray absorption and fragmentation processes. The XAS, recorded as Total-Ion-Yield (TIY), is dominated by C1s electron excitations from either the central carbon atom, CC, or the two terminal carbon atoms, CT, to the frontier orbitals, the semi-occupied-molecular-orbital (SOMO) and the lowest-unoccupied-molecular-orbital (LUMO). All of the intense features in the XAS could only be assigned with the aid of ab initio spectral simulation at the Multi-Configuration Self-Consistent-Field (MCSCF) level of theory, this level being required because of the multi-reference nature of the core-excited state wavefunctions of the open shell molecule. The ionization energies (IEs) of the singlet and triplet states of the C1s ionized allyl radical (XPS) were also calculated at the MCSCF level.
