Tip leakage vortex has an important influence on the performance of semi-open centrifugal pumps. Simulations based on the three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes were conducted to study the structural characteristics of tip leakage vortex and its effects on the internal flow field, and the Shear Stress Transport k-ω turbulence model was used to simulate the whole flow passage of centrifugal pumps with tip clearances of 0 mm and 1 mm. Then, the tip leakage vortex was analyzed using the relative vorticity transport equation. The numerical data and experimental results agreed well. The leakage vortex formed in the tip clearance led to 18.7% and 14.4% decrease in head and efficiency under design condition, respectively, and the bigger the flow rate, the fast the performance decreased. Tip leakage vortex formed at the leading edge of the blade moved along the suction surface. Whereas the tip leakage vortex formed near the middle of the blade extended to the pressure surface of the adjacent blade. This phenomenon deteriorated the flow field and induced passage vortex, thereby reducing the static pressure and blade load and changing the static pressure distribution law. The formation and development of leakage vortex could be attributed to the relative vortex stretching the term. The Coriolis force term could reflect the change of vorticity caused by leakage flow, and the viscous diffusion term served as the vorticity source.
Marine engineering materials are prone to serious corrosion damage, which affects the efficiency and reliability of marine equipment. The diversity of corrosion morphology makes it difficult to achieve the quantification and standardization of the microscopic local information on the corroded surface, which is of great significance to reveal the multi-scale corrosion mechanism. In this paper, an image intelligent recognition method for the corrosion damage of Q420 steel in seawater is established, which is based on the gray level co-occurrence matrix, binary image method and fractal model. Through the feature extraction of corrosion morphology, the quantitative analysis of corrosion morphology and the microscopic evaluation of corrosion characteristics are achieved. The image recognition data are consistent with the electrochemical result for most cases, which confirms the validity of this image intelligent recognition method. The average gray value and energy value of corrosion morphology reduces with the Cl− concentration, indicating that the corrosion damage aggravates gradually. The increasing standard deviation and entropy reflects that the randomness of the pit distribution increases. The pitting ratio increases from 20.19% to 51.64% as the Cl− concentration increases from 50% to 200% of the standard solution. However, there exists a discrepancy for high Cl− concentration because of the irregular corrosion morphology and various pit depth. The fractal dimension increases with the complexity of the corroded surface at low Cl− concentration, but the fractal dimension decreases at high Cl− concentration because the corrosion complexity is interfered by the interconnection of corrosion holes due to the accelerated pit evolution.
The circulating cooling water system is widely used in various industrial production fields, and its operating cost largely depends on external factors, such as ambient temperature and working medium flow. Considering the relative elevation of the heat exchanger, this study establishes a total system operation cost analysis and optimization model based on the superstructure method. The model uses ambient dry bulb temperature, ambient wet bulb temperature, and working medium flow as random variables. Water supply temperature is adopted as the decision variable, and the minimum operating cost of the system is used as the objective function. An analysis of the effect of the three random variables on the operation cost shows that the effect of ambient dry bulb temperature on the operation cost is negligible, and the effect of ambient wet bulb temperature and working medium flow on the operation cost is significant. In addition, a control equation of water supply temperature is established to determine the “near optimal” operation, which is based on the correlation among ambient wet bulb temperature, working medium flow, and optimal water supply temperature. Then, the method is applied to a case system. The operating cost of the system is reduced by 22–31% at different times during the sampling day.
With the increasing maturity of tubular turbine power generation technology, an increasing number of industrial applications use it to recover the rich back pressure energy of a circulating cooling water system (CCWS). However, the influence of tubular turbine runaway on the stability of CCWS is still unclear. This work combines the one-dimensional (1D) method of characteristics (MOC) with the three-dimensional (3D) computational fluid dynamics (CFD), develops a 1D CCWS and 3D tubular turbine coupling simulation method, and simulates the runaway and runaway shutdown processes of tubular turbine under small flow rate condition and large flow rate condition in the real system. Results show that the main operating parameters of the system slightly change when the tubular turbine transitions from the steady state to the runaway condition. The runner’s radial force substantially increases in the runaway condition of the tubular turbine, and the phenomenon of violent oscillation is observed compared with the steady state. During the shutdown process of the tubular turbine runaway condition, the valves in parallel and series with the faulty turbine adopt a reasonable cooperative control strategy, which allows for a smooth recovery of the system operating pressure to the original steady state conditions.
With rising energy prices and the intensification of environmental problems, researchers have paid increasing attention to the recovery of the residual pressure energy of the industrial circulating cooling water system (CCWS) in hydraulic turbines. Taking the existing CCWS as the research object, this study analyzes the feasibility of the transformation of the power generation using residual pressure from the perspectives of energy and economy. The energy flow analysis of the system reveals that the hydraulic optimization of the system should be carried out first to obtain the minimum total energy consumption of the pump and the turbine. Then, combined with the advantages of the traditional hydraulic optimization regulation strategy of the water supply network, a synchronous regulation strategy of the pipeline and the pump station is proposed. On the basis of the synchronous regulation strategy of the pipeline and the pump station, this research proposes a method for a comprehensive feasibility analysis of the CCWS’s power generation using residual pressure. Finally, taking a CCWS as an example, the simulation and comparison experiments of four transformations of the power generation using residual pressure are designed. The experiments not only prove the application value of the comprehensive analysis proposed in this research, but also prove the conclusion of the energy flow analysis mentioned above to be correct.
