Dr. Filippo Montemurro is the Director of the Breast Unit and of the Investigative Clinical Oncology (INCO) at the Fondazione del Piemonte per l’Oncologia/Candiolo Cancer Institute (IRCCS). The Candiolo Cancer Institute is a multi comprehensive Cancer Center that has been designated by the Italian Ministry of Health as a Scientific Institute for cancer Treatment and Research (IRCCS). During his fellowship and career, Dr. Montemurro has focused on breast cancer and biologically targeted therapies for the HER2-positive subset, where he acquired competence and international visibility. Dr. Montemurro first described differences in clinical behavior and treatment response in women with HER2-positive breast cancer according to co-expression of hormone receptors. Furthermore, he has pioneered reductive, chemotherapy-sparing approaches for patients with HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer whose disease shows molecular features of clinical addiction to the HER2 oncogene. Dr Montemurro is Principal Investigator and steering committee member of numerous Phase II/ III, multicentric international breast cancer Clinical Trials. Furthermore, he co-chairs a special program in patients with metastatic Cancer of Unknown Primary origin (CUP), which includes clinical and molecular investigations in this rare but meaningful disease subset. Dr. Montemurro has published 177 papers in international medical journals, a substantial proportion of them as first, senior, or corresponding author.
