Dr. Susana R. Chaves holds a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Porto (UP, 1998) and carried out her Ph.D. at the HHMI laboratory of Nobel laureate Dr. Günter Blobel, Rockefeller University, awarded by UP in 2003. Afterwards, she was a post-doc at the University of California, San Diego and the Scripps Research Institute, USA, before joining the Centre of Molecular and Environmental Biology (CBMA) in 2008 as a Researcher. She is interested in using high-throughput methodologies for biotechnological applications. Examples include bioprospecting microbial collections towards novel solutions for bio-based products and processes, such as fermentations, and a multi-disciplinary research line using yeast as a tool in risk assessment and monitoring of chemicals with potential environmental impact.
