Ship detection in panchromatic optical remote sensing images is faced with two major challenges, locating candidate regions from complex backgrounds quickly and describing ships effectively to reduce false alarms. Here, a practical method was proposed to solve these issues. Firstly, we constructed a novel visual saliency detection method based on a hyper-complex Fourier transform of a quaternion to locate regions of interest (ROIs), which can improve the accuracy of the subsequent discrimination process for panchromatic images, compared with the phase spectrum quaternary Fourier transform (PQFT) method. In addition, the Gaussian filtering of different scales was performed on the transformed result to synthesize the best saliency map. An adaptive method based on GrabCut was then used for binary segmentation to extract candidate positions. With respect to the discrimination stage, a rotation-invariant modified local binary pattern (LBP) description was achieved by combining shape, texture, and moment invariant features to describe the ship targets more powerfully. Finally, the false alarms were eliminated through SVM training. The experimental results on panchromatic optical remote sensing images demonstrated that the presented saliency model under various indicators is superior, and the proposed ship detection method is accurate and fast with high robustness, based on detailed comparisons to existing efforts.
Existing multi-exposure fusion (MEF) algorithms for gray images under low-illumination cannot preserve details in dark and highlighted regions very well, and the fusion image noise is large. To address these problems, an MEF method is proposed. First, the latent low-rank representation (LatLRR) is used on low-dynamic images to generate low-rank parts and saliency parts to reduce noise after fusion. Then, two components are fused separately in Laplace multi-scale space. Two different weight maps are constructed according to features of gray images under low illumination. At the same time, an energy equation is designed to obtain the optimal ratio of different weight factors. An improved guided filtering based on an adaptive regularization factor is proposed to refine the weight maps to maintain spatial consistency and avoid artifacts. Finally, a high dynamic image is obtained by the inverse transform of low-rank part and saliency part. The experimental results show that the proposed method has advantages both in subjective and objective evaluation over state-of-the-art multi-exposure fusion methods for gray images under low-illumination imaging.
A partitionable adaptive multilayer diffractive optical neural network is constructed to address setup issues in multilayer diffractive optical neural network systems and the difficulty of flexibly changing the number of layers and input data size. When the diffractive devices are partitioned properly, a multilayer diffractive optical neural network can be constructed quickly and flexibly without readjusting the optical path, and the number of optical devices, which increases linearly with the number of network layers, can be avoided while preventing the energy loss during propagation where the beam energy decays exponentially with the number of layers. This architecture can be extended to construct distinct optical neural networks for different diffraction devices in various spectral bands. The accuracy values of 89.1% and 81.0% are experimentally evaluated for MNIST database and MNIST fashion database and show that the classification performance of the proposed optical neural network reaches state-of-the-art levels.
Visual object trackers based on Siamese networks perform well in visual object tracking (VOT); however, degradation of the tracking accuracy occurs when the target has fast motion, large-scale changes, and occlusion. In this study, in order to solve this problem and enhance the inference speed of the tracker, fast and accurate visual tracking with a group convolution and pixel-level correlation based on a Siamese network is proposed. The algorithm incorporates multi-layer feature information on the basis of Siamese networks. We designed a multi-scale feature aggregated channel attention block (MCA) and a global-to-local-information-fused spatial attention block (GSA), which enhance the feature extraction capability of the network. The use of a pixel-level mutual correlation operation in the network to match the search region with the template region refines the bounding box and reduces background interference. Comparing our work with the latest algorithms, the precision and success rates on the UAV123, OTB100, LaSOT, and GOT10K datasets were improved, and our tracker was able to run at 40FPS, with a better performance in complex scenes such as those with occlusion, illumination changes, and fast-motion situations.
