Biography

Andrea Pisano is a researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR). His work focuses on satellite operational oceanography and its applications to climate and marine environmental monitoring, with particular expertise in satellite-based Sea Surface Temperature (SST) processing, validation and assessment. He has extensive experience in the development of multi-sensor merged Level-3S products and gap-free Level-4 SST analyses, including their use for near-real-time monitoring, climate applications and the study of ocean extremes. He is actively involved in the production, quality assessment and distribution of operational and climate SST products, with specific interests in climate variability, long-term SST trends, marine heatwaves and low-frequency SST variability. Since 2022, he has been leading the Copernicus Marine Service SST Thematic Assembly Centre (SST TAC). Within this framework, he also coordinates the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea SST operational production. He contributes to several international initiatives and working groups focused on satellite SST, climate data records, product validation and the detection, characterisation and assessment of climate-related ocean parameters. He has been involved in numerous international projects and oceanographic surveys, and is an active member of international groups including GHRSST, S3VT, SLSTR-QWG and the S3NGO Mission Advisory Group of ESA.
