Our lab focuses on studying the regulation of force generation inside cells, focusing on the motors themselves and proximal regulators. We are also trying to unveil how pro-tumor signals change the activity of molecular motors to favor the onser of the cancer program; how immune cells generate forces as they interact with and destroy tumor cells. We are also interested in novel mutations in motor proteins that cause immune pathologies in humans. Finally, we aim to study the immunosuppressive profile of pre-tumor and tumor cells, including clonal B cells and transformed cells from solid tissues. Miguel Vicente-Manzanares obtained his PhD in 2003, under the tutelage of Prof. Sanchez-Madrid, one of the discoverers of leukocyte integrins and their ligands. He did his post-doc with Alan Rick Horwitz, who discovered muscle beta1 integrins, in Virginia, from 2004 to 2011. In 2012, he obtained a tenure-track position at U. Autonoma de Madrid. He was tenured in 2017 at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer in Salamanca, where his group develops its work.
