Dr. Justyna Staninska-Pięta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Technology of Plant Origin at the Poznań University of Life Sciences, Poland. She received her PhD in Agricultural Sciences in the discipline of Food Technology and Nutrition in 2019. Her research interests focus on food microbiology, microbial ecology, and biotechnology, with particular emphasis on NGS-based characterization of food-associated microbiomes, metagenomic analysis of bacterial communities during the traditional fermentation of plant-based foods, and the molecular detection of microorganisms and antibiotic resistance genes. Her work aims to improve the understanding of microbial diversity, food safety, and microbiological risk assessment in fermented foods and environmental microbiomes, providing data that support predictive microbiology and evidence-based food safety strategies. Dr. Staninska-Pięta was the Principal Investigator of the First Grant (2nd Edition, 2023–2025) project, which investigated the distribution of antibiotic resistance within the microbiomes of the Sama River water and sediments. Since 2026, she has been leading the MINIATURA 10 project funded by the Polish National Science Center (NCN), focusing on the occurrence of selected antibiotic resistance genes in fermented plant-based foods as a basis for further technological research. Dr. Staninska-Pięta is a member of the Polish Society of Microbiologists.
