Short Biography Dr. Haileslassie Gebremeskel earned his BSc in Horticulture from Jimma University, followed by an MSc in Horticulture from Haramaya University. He then obtained his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, specializing in Plant Molecular Breeding and Genetics within the field of Vegetable Science. He is a researcher in the Horticulture Research Program at the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research and has previously served as a research fellow at the International Livestock Research Institute, where he focused on improving forages grasses in Africa with the application of genomic tools, including genetic diversity analysis, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and developing genomic selection (GS) protocols. Dr. Haileslassie specializes in quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping and genome-wide association studies to identify single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers linked to key agronomic traits. His research employs whole-genome sequencing, resequencing, and genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) methodologies. Furthermore, he applies marker-assisted selection (MAS) and genomic selection (GS) to accelerate genetic improvement in vegetable crops and forage grasses. To date, Dr. Haileslassie has authored 33 research articles published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, including International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS), Frontiers in Plant Science, Horticulture Research, and Theoretical and Applied Genetics.
