I am Associate Professor of Biochemistry in the University of Seville (Spain). I reached the PhD. degree in Biology under the supervision of Prof. M. Hervás and M. A. De la Rosa. In, 1992, I learned fast kinetic approaches to biological electron transfer in Prof. Gordon Tollin's lab (U. of Arizona, Tucson, USA). Then, I visited the University of Florence (1994-1995) to learn NMR spectroscopy and Molecular Dynamics simulations with Prof. Lucia Banci. In May 1995, I joined the Bioenergetics Section at the C.E.N. Saclay (C.E.A; FR) for a two-years postdoctoral stay in Pierre Sétif’s lab. There, he unveiled the electron transfer pathway on the reducing site of Photosystem I by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and fast kinetic spectroscopy. After his return to Spain, his research focused on the structural features determining protein dynamics, stability, and functionality, with emphasis in biomolecular interactions, using computational and biophysical approaches. My current interests focus on mitochondrial diseases and in NBIA syndromes, still profiting on biophysical tools. I belong to the Spanish society of Biochemistry, the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Society of Chemistry. Since 2014, I participate in the scientific advisory board of the Spanish NBIA patients association.
