Information

Marek Murias obtained his PhD from the Poznan University of Medical Sciences in 2003. Following his graduation, he embarked on a postdoctoral project funded by the Marie Curie Fellowship at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, University of Vienna. Currently, he holds the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Toxicology at Poznan University of Medical Sciences. In addition, he serves as a Scientific Advisor at the Center for Advanced Technologies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland. Prof. Murias also contributes his expertise as a Visiting Professor at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, and is recognized as a European Registered Toxicologist (ERT). His research focuses on the anticancer activity of both natural and synthetic compounds, exploring avenues such as photodynamic therapy, cancer pathophysiology, chemical toxicity, oxidative stress in pathophysiology, and cancer therapy. He is also interested in antioxidants and in vivo imaging methods, including luciferase and electron paramagnetic resonance-based imaging. Prof. Murias primarily employs in vitro methodologies, including scaffold-based 3D models. However, in his department, a laboratory for the chicken chorioallantoic membrane model has been established, where current projects on ovarian cancer and gliomas are being conducted. In this model, imaging based on luminescence, fluorescence, and electron spin resonance are also utilized.
