Stefano Ghignone is a Research Scientist at the Institute for Sustainable Plant Protection (IPSP-CNR), Turin Unit, National Research Council of Italy, since November 2011. He holds a Master's Degree in Bioinformatics (cum laude, 2003) and a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences (2000), both from the University of Turin. His research focuses on the genomic and transcriptomic analysis of symbiotic organisms, particularly ectomycorrhizal fungi such as Tuber melanosporum and Tuber magnatum (black and white truffles), and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and their bacterial symbionts. He also investigates the biodiversity and ecology of fungal and microbial communities in diverse natural and agricultural soils using advanced sequencing technologies and numerical ecology methods. His expertise in bioinformatics and molecular methods has enabled significant contributions to understanding plant-microbe interactions and soil microbiome dynamics.
