I first approached biocatalysis during the internship of my Master thesis; this training allowed me to acquire robust skills in handling enzymes as biological catalysts as well as a solid knowledge of several analytical techniques. Later on, I expanded my expertise in biocatalysis thanks to my PhD project: I mastered cloning, recombinant expression and purification of enzymes and their biochemical characterization (including X-ray crystallography). As a post-doc at the University of Pavia, I learned more about enzyme immobilization techniques.
These experiences and training as a whole have played a key role in shaping my multidisciplinary competences (biochemistry, molecular and structural biology, biotransformations), which now allow me to produce a biocatalyst, to understand its peculiar features and to optimize it, if necessary, for its application in preparative scale biotransformations.
