A novel, improved equivalent circuit model of double-sided linear induction motors (DLIMs) is proposed, which takes the skin effect and the nonzero leakage reactance of the secondary, longitudinal, and transverse end effects into consideration. Firstly, the traditional equivalent circuit with longitudinal and transverse end effects are briefly reviewed. Additionally, the correction coefficients for longitudinal and transverse end effects derived by one-dimensional analysis models are given. Secondly, correction factors for skin effect, which reflects the inhomogeneous air gap magnetic field vertically, and the secondary leakage reactance are derived by the quasi-two-dimensional analysis model. Then, the proposed equivalent circuit is presented, and the excitation reactance and secondary resistance are modified by the correction coefficients derived from the three analytical models. Finally, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model is used to verify the proposed equivalent circuit model under varying air gap width and frequency, and the results are also compared with that of the traditional equivalent circuit models. The calculated thrust characteristics by the proposed equivalent circuit and 3D finite element model are experimentally validated under a constant voltage–frequency drive.

A new type of permanent magnet (PM) brushless claw pole motor (CPM) with soft magnetic composite (SMC) core is designed and analyzed in this paper. The PMs are mounted on the claw pole surface, and the three-phase stator windings are fed by variable-frequency three-phase AC currents. The advantages of the proposed CPM are that the slip rings on the rotor are cast off and it can achieve the efficiency improvement and higher power density. The effects of the claw-pole structure parameters, the air-gap length, and the PM thinner parameter of the proposed CPM on the output torque are investigated by using three-dimensional time-stepping finite element method (3D TS-FEM). The optimal rotor structure of the proposed CPM is obtained by using the response surface methodology (RSM) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method and the comparison of full-load performances of the proposed CPM with different material cores (SMC and silicon steel) is analyzed.

This paper investigates the operating characteristics of hybrid-flux-modulated motor with amorphous magnetic material core using 3D time-stepping finite element method. In the proposed hybrid-flux-modulated motor, the radial-iron segments and axial-iron segments in the air-gap are used to modulate the magnetic field, the concentrated stator windings are built to reduce the end length, therefore to reduce copper losses, the stator core and the modulated segments are built with the amorphous magnetic material to reduce the core losses and therefore to enhance the efficiency of the motor. The flux distribution, electromotive force waveforms, cogging torque, output torque, core losses and efficiency of the proposed hybrid-flux-modulated motor have been investigated. All studies show that the efficiency of the proposed hybrid-flux-modulated motor can be improved by utilising amorphous magnetic material and the motor is potential to apply in variable speed driving applications.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) has many advantages such as fast building speed, wide range of materials, complicate shape of prototype and simple post-treatment. However, the shrinkage and mechanical stresses result in lost of the accuracy. This paper investigates the dimension precision of polymer SLS prototypes and proposes methods to control dimensions in suitable degree. The influencing factors of dimensional precision in the file preparation of CAD model, manufacturing system of SLS prototype and sintering process are analyzed. It indicates that the sintering shrinkage in sintering process is the main reason of dimensional changes. To improve the dimensional precision, the measures are proposed to diminish the shrinkage: improving material of prototype, optimizing the sintering process and compensating the lost of dimension. After analysis the experimental results, the rule of error changes is summarized by fitting equations and feedback to controlling software of SLS system to improve the dimensional precision effectively. The SLS prototype could be controlled in 100±0.20mm through compensation.
