Ricardo Díaz-Delgado was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1971. Since 2022, he has been a senior researcher at the Doñana Biological Station (EBD), a research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). He received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 1994 from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, his Master's Degree on Remote Sensing Applications in 1998 from IEEC-CSIC and earned his PhD in 2000 from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona. His research experience includes optical multi-scale remote sensing applications for long-term ecological monitoring of natural and protected areas as well as validation of Earth Observation products by upscaling procedures using in situ ground-truth data. He has been working at EBD since 2001, leading the Remote Sensing and GIS Lab and the long-term monitoring program of the Doñana protected area at the landscape scale. Since 2022, he has also been the coordinator of the Environmental Monitoring Unit of ICTS-RBD. He is a member of the Spanish Association of Remote Sensing (AET), the Spanish Association of Terrestrial Ecology (AEET) and the IEEE Society, and was selected as a finalist for the 2020 Natura 2000 Awards.
