Prof. Dr. Tobias Winkler is an orthopedic and trauma surgeon at the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC), the Berlin Institute of Health Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT), and the Julius Wolff Institute (JWI) of the Charité in Berlin, Germany, where he holds a Professorship for Regenerative Orthopedics and Traumatology. Tobias is the coordinator of an international EU Horizon 2020-supported research consortium performing the only worldwide phase III trial of allogeneic cell therapy for regeneration after skeletal muscle injury. Furthermore, he is the coordinator of the EU Horizon Europe-funded PROTO consortium, developing a cell therapy and biomechanical intervention for osteoarthritis. He is the head of a research team, whose main focus is the translation of advanced therapies for musculoskeletal indications. His research work in the field encompasses cell therapies with adult mesenchymal and blood cells for bone, tendon, and muscle regeneration and regenerative therapeutic approaches toward osteoarthritis. In 2021, Tobias founded the Advanced Therapies in Orthopaedics Foundation, which he co-heads with Michiel Broker, and which connects international key opinion leaders from research, clinical practice, corporate, finance, and regulatory fields to accelerate the development of advanced diagnostics and therapies for musculoskeletal indications.
