Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Linert is the professor at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry, Vienna University of Technology. He has been recognized with several scientific prizes and awards: the “Rudolf Wegscheider-Prize” from the Austrian Academy of Science (1993), for contributions to our knowledge about nonaqueous solutions and solvatochromic compounds; the “Sandoz-Prize” for chemistry (1994) (bioinorganic kinetic and molecular-biological work); the title of “Ao. Univ.-Prof.” based on scientific activities (1996); a call for a full Professorship (“Oridinariat”) for “Inorganic Chemistry” at the “Karl Franzens-University” in Graz (1999); and two awards for members of the scientific group for the best masters thesis and one award for the best PhD thesis given by the Austrian Chemical Society (1993–1998). His research topics mainly include: the preparation and investigation of coordination compounds showing temperature-induced spin crossover (SCO); the solvato- and chromotropism of coordination compounds and Lewis-acid and Lewis-base indicators for non-aqueous solvents and solutions; and the investigations of the kinetics of redox reactions concerning oxidative stress and pathogenic and aging-related factors in close collaboration with biochemical and medical groups.
