Both symmetric and asymmetric airfoils are widely used in aircraft design and manufacture, and they have different aerodynamic characteristics. In order to improve flight performance and ensure flight safety, the aerodynamic coefficients of these airfoils must be obtained. Various methods are used to generate aerodynamic coefficients. The prediction model is a promising method that can effectively reduce cost and time. In this paper, a graphical prediction method for multiple aerodynamic coefficients of airfoils based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed. First, a transformed airfoil image (TAI) was constructed by using the flow-condition convolution with the airfoil image. Next, TAI was combined with the original airfoil image to form a composite airfoil image (CAI) that is used as the input of the CNN prediction model. Then, the structure and parameters of the prediction model were designed according to CAI features. Finally, a sample set that was generated on the basis of the deformation of symmetrical airfoil NACA 0012 was used to train and test the prediction model. Simulation results showed that the proposed method based on CNN could simultaneously predict the pitch-moment, drag, and lift coefficients, and prediction accuracy was high.
To generate more high-quality aerodynamic data using the information provided by different fidelity data, where low-fidelity aerodynamic data provides the trend information and high-fidelity aerodynamic data provides value information, we applied a deep neural network (DNN) algorithm to fuse the information of multi-fidelity aerodynamic data. We discuss the relationships between the low-fidelity and high-fidelity data, and then we describe the proposed architecture for an aerodynamic data fusion model. The architecture consists of three fully-connected neural networks that are employed to approximate low-fidelity data, and the linear part and nonlinear part of correlation for the low- and high-fidelity data, respectively. To test the proposed multi-fidelity aerodynamic data fusion method, we calculated Euler and Navier–Stokes simulations for a typical airfoil at various Mach numbers and angles of attack to obtain the aerodynamic coefficients as low- and high-fidelity data. A fusion model of the longitudinal coefficients of lift and drag was constructed with the proposed method. For comparisons, variable complexity modeling and cokriging models were also built. The accuracy spread between the predicted value and true value was discussed for both the training and test data of the three different methods. We calculated the root mean square error and average relative deviation to demonstrate the performance of the three different methods. The fusion result of the proposed method was satisfactory on the test case, and showed a better performance compared with the other two traditional methods presented. The results provide evidence that the method proposed in this paper can be useful in dealing with the multi-fidelity aerodynamic data fusion problem.
Aircraft airfoils are classified into two main categories: symmetrical and asymmetrical. Both types of airfoils have a significant impact on the flight performance and safety of the aircraft. The fast prediction of the aerodynamic coefficients and pressure distributions of airfoils is crucial for the design of aircraft. The traditional wind tunnel test and CFD methods have the disadvantages of high test cost and high time consumption. To solve these problems, a combined autoencoder (CAE) network is proposed in this paper, which can achieve the fast prediction of airfoil aerodynamic coefficients and pressure distributions. The network consists of an airfoil shape autoencoder (AE) network and a multilayer perceptron (MLP) network. Firstly, an autoencoder network reflecting the characteristics of the airfoil shape is established, and the effects of different latent variables on the performance of the autoencoder network are investigated. Then, the latent variables obtained from the autoencoder are concatenated with the inflow conditions such as the Reynolds number and the angle of attack to be used as inputs to the MLP network, and the aerodynamic coefficients of different airfoils in different inflow conditions are predicted. The effects of various latent variable inputs, as well as the direct input of the airfoil shape into the MLP network, on the prediction performance of aerodynamic coefficients are compared and analyzed. The optimal aerodynamic coefficient prediction network is then obtained. Finally, the CAE network is also applied to predict the pressure distributions of different airfoils in different inflow conditions and the effects of different latent variables and input conditions on the prediction performance of the pressure distributions are analyzed and compared with the advantages and disadvantages of the CAE network and the conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) network. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is capable of accurately predicting aerodynamic characteristics in a shorter time, offering a valuable reference for the fast and efficient design of aircraft airfoils.
Local neural operator (LNO) conception has provided a feasible way for scientific computations. The LNO learns transient partial differential equations from random field samples, and then the pre-trained LNO solves practical problems on specific computational domains. For applications, we may ask: Are the training samples rich enough? To what extent can we trust the solutions obtained from pre-trained LNO models for unknown cases? The generalizability of LNO could answer these questions. Here, we propose to use two plain scalar features, the amplitude and wavenumber of the input functions, to indicate the richness of training samples and to evaluate the generalization error of pre-trained LNO. In elastodynamic practices, we find that isolated evolving wavenumber modes for Lamé-Navier equation caused the training dataset to lack mode diversity. By data supplementation and model fine-tuning targeting to the discovered lack modes, the pre-trained and fine-tuned LNO model solves Lamb problem correctly and efficiently. These results and the proposed generalization criteria provide a paradigm for LNO applications.
The application of domain specific modeling language (DSML) in the decision behavior modeling of the air-combat simulation brings higher level of abstraction and friendly environment. However, the decision behavior model must be translated to executed code before it be used in air-combat simulation system. So, how to realize auto generation of code and improving the efficiency has become an important problem. A code generation framework and mechanism based on python script is designed, which provide the semantic algorithm of air-combat simulation decision behavior modeling language and model explain framework. Otherwise, based on the BON technology provided by generic modeling environment (GME), a code generator is built in VS2010 using C++, which really realize the auto code generation and avoid the error and time waste by manual coding.
